Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out as an extension to a test pit dug as part of Time Teams 'Big Dig'. The work was carried out to locate any remains associated with medieval bloomery smelting and a later blast furnace that were known for the site. Medieval deposits consisting of bloomery slag, sealed by post-medieval blast furnace slag deposits were identified. The blast furnace was possibly located at the site of the current cottage.
