Abstract: |
A watching brief during restoration work within the Holy Trinity Church recovered numerous fragments of previously disturbed human skeletal material, all of which were re-interred without removal from consecrated ground. The principal archaeological observations resulted during the removal of the existing chancel floor to be replaced with stone flagging. These included three chalk block walls of possible pre-Norman origin, a brick foundation course possibly contemporary with the construction of St Clement's chapel, and the discovery of two hitherto unlocated 18th and 19th century burials.
