Abstract: |
Little of prehistoric or Roman interest was found to be recorded in the vicinity and from the late Saxon period onwards the history of Tillington is closely associated with Petworth. The land south of Tillington was not part of the Petworth Estate in the 17th century and was probably acquired in the 18th century. Fieldwalking did not locate any significant scatters of artefacts. The general density of struck flints, medieval and post-medieval pottery, tiles and metal fragments were thought to be a typical background distribution.[Au(abr)] |
