Abstract:		 A watching brief was carried out during topsoil stripping within part of a proposed landfill site. Evaluation of the area in 1992 had established the presence of four areas of archaeological interest, comprising a historic bank and ditch, scatters of Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age flint and a pit of earlier prehistoric date. Fieldwalking later established the presence of significant concentrations of worked flint of Neolithic and Bronze Age date in the south-east of the site. Subsequently, the south-eastern parts of the site, including the historic bank and ditch, were excluded from the landfill proposals.The watching brief was limited to the north of the site, covering an area of c. 6ha. Two ditches were observed which were post-medieval or modern in date, and had probably been created as temporary drainage channels. Two flint flakes and a sherd of post-medieval glazed redware were recovered as unstratified material from the topsoil. [AIP]
