Abstract: |
In advance of the proposed development an evaluation took place. The evaluation followed a walkover and geophysical survey which located extensive ridge and furrow earthworks, of probable medieval date, across the entire site. Archaeological features comprising small pits, gullies and a large quarry pit were identified in two of three evaluation trenches. A quantity of Romano-British brick, tile and pottery were recovered from the quarry pit. The quality and quantity of the artefacts suggested that there may have been a high status building or kiln site, of Roman date, in the vicinity of the development area. [Au] |
