Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during the stripping of topsoil and overburden at the new J. Sainsbury site. The site had been extensively damaged by previous construction work and therefore not many deposits survived. Possible Mesolithic deposits survived within the brickearth. Small amounts of very abraded Roman pottery were recovered possibly suggesting farming activity in the period. A few enigmatic features dating to the post-medieval period were noted, and may have had some horticultural connection. [Au(abr)] |
