Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken on the new gas pipeline. This followed an archaeological desk-based assessment of the route, which had identified a relict industrial landscape relating to 19th and 20th century coal mining. A programme of intermittent site visits agreed with the County Council identified minor industrial features, including wooden tramway sleepers and steel cables relating to spoil processing and sorting machinery.
