Abstract: |
The church was a Grade I Listed Building and was one of three churches around Barnstaple with medieval broach spires. The timber framed structure consisted of box canted frames in two stages with an octagonal spire. Parts of the original timber-framed structure were dendrochronogically dated to the 13th century. This suggested that the spire was not only the earliest timber-framed structure in the South West, but also that it was the earliest timber spire confirmed by tree-ring dating in the whole of Britain.[Au(abr)] |
