Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of ten geotechnical test pits prior to the proposed development of the site. Eight of the ten test pits were devoid of stratigraphic evidence, archaeological deposits and environmental deposits. Two test pits contained peat strata but nothing else. The peat contained dateable organic material, but the peat in pit F was 3m below ground level, and quickly flooded to a depth of 0.7m. The report concluded that the combination of no archaeological artefactual material, and peat in only two of the ten test pits, suggest that there was no undiscovered archaeological significance to Angel Way.
