Abstract: |
A field evaluation was carried out in advance of a new extension to the Senior Common Room. The evaluation revealed evidence for medieval or post-medieval gravel quarrying at the north end of the area evaluated. Across the whole site were levelling deposits dating to the 16th or 17th centuries, probably relating to the original construction of the college and the laying out and landscaping of the President's Garden. A wall was discovered next to the existing carport, and interpreted as the north wall of the kitchen building shown on Loggan's print of 1675. [Au(abr)] |
