Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out on a subterranean brick barrel vaulted chamber in the gardens of Marlborough House. The structure was discovered by a previous watching brief during works in the gardens, part of an ongoing programme of refurbishment of Marlborough House. A detailed survey of the brick work and a test pit on a corner of the chamber were carried out. The structure was a large silt collection chamber constructed in the 17th century as part of the drainage system of nearby St James's Palace. The chamber was re-used as part of the drainage system of Marlborough House. [Au(adp)] |
