Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of proposed development of land to the rear of 64-66 High Street, Pershore. The evaluation produced no evidence of medieval activity, the earliest material recorded being 16th to 17th century pottery recovered from a layer of disturbed material at the top of natural silty clay deposits. No deposits of archaeological significance were located. (The First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1885 suggests that the site effectively lies in an undeveloped area lying in the angle between the rear of properties fronting the High Street, to the east, and Church Street, to the south. This probably reflects the situation in the medieval period and the area may have been used for gardens, orchards or other agricultural practice; alternatively, it may simply have been unused wasteland.)[AIP] |
