Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. A small number of prehistoric artefacts had been found, and possible Roman cemeteries lay in the surrounding area. A Roman amphitheatre and a fort lay to the south. The site lay within a marshy area in medieval times; drainage ditches were dug in the early 15th century, and the area had been developed by the late 16th century. It was concluded that the excavation of engineering test-pits at the site should be monitored. [AIP] |
