Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained on groundworks associated with the construction of a new swimming pool and tennis court at the Old Vicarage. Rubbish pits of 19th century date were recorded adjacent to the house. A ditch and pit to the south-east of the house were tentatively assigned a medieval date, the ditch being interpreted as the line of a medieval property boundary. It was suggested that together, these features might indicate that the area south of the Main Street was one regularly laid out, but that this regular layout had fallen from use by the early Post-Medieval period.
