Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken during groundworks in advance of the construction of three new farm buildings and a yard area. In total five areas of archaeological interest were revealed. Feature 1, consisted of a small circular patch of charred and blackened earth infilling a shallow recess. Amongst the fill were eight sherds of micaceaous prehistoric pottery, with stabbed decoration on the external surface, though to have been of Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date. Feature 2 was another circular area of burning. Feature 3 was an oval pit containing a total of six flints and several small fragments of white quartz. Feature 4 consisted of a small feature cut into the subsoil. This may have been a post hole as several possible packing stones were noted during excavation. No finds were recovered. Feature 5 consisted of another area of burning with abundant fragments of charcoal visible within a matrix of dark grey -stained soil. [Au(adp)] |
