Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during ground works associated with the construction of a stair and lift shaft. The brief recorded the presence of a brick-built basement with light wells and external buttress and also masonry fragments which formed the early 19th century remains of St. Matthew's church. A large pit, which might have been linked to Roman gravel extraction as part of the construction of the Roman road exiting the north gate of the Roman fort, were also found. [Au(adp)] |
