Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-top assessment of the site of an office block was undertaken. The site lay close to both the Roman city wall and the site of an amphitheatre. Basinghall Street was first mentioned in documentary sources of the late 12th century, and the site itself had been constantly occupied since 1556. Deposits beneath Austral House would have been truncated by development, but it was concluded that there would be some potential for deep remains such as Roman 1st-2nd century occupation, and for features such as wells and pits, which had been found during a nearby excavation. It was recommended that an evaluation of the site should take place. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
