Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out prior to partial redevelopment at Sadlers Wells Theatre. Palaeolithic implements had been found at the site in the 19th century, and it was crossed by the projected line of a medieval conduit. During the evaluation, an 18th century gravel surface and a cess pit were revealed. Foundation trenches for walls, probably relating to pre-19th century theatre buildings, were recorded. It was concluded that a watching brief should be undertaken during the excavation of basements. [AIP] |
