Abstract: |
Excavation work in the area of the Pine Pits and what was thought to have been the Melon Ground (within the North Garden) was undertaken. This included three trenches and two small window samples to the North and South of the extant Pine Pit. Results revealed one relatively well-preserved pit, one simple frame structure and the possible robbed remains of a second frame. Another structure was also identified, this could have been a boiler house or ancillary garden building. The 'melon house' was thought to have fulfilled a variety of roles possibly constructed during the early 19th century. [Au(adp)] |
