Abstract: |
The assessment identified that seven sites of archaeological interest had been recorded in the surrounding area of the proposed development area. These included the findspot of two Neolithic axes; the possible locations of a lost village, a Hall and a settlement; a late 18th century lodge; and a World War II pillbox. Evidence of ridge and furrow had been noted near the site on an aerial photograph. During a field visit, further ridge and furrow was noted in the area and discussions with the farmer revealed that a polished stone axe and whetstone had been found in fields just to the north. A raised area and channel were observed in the possible area of the settlement. [AIP] |
