Abstract: |
The purpose of the evaluation was to assess the depth and preservation of archaeological deposits within an area that might possibly be developed for social housing and a decked car-park. The proposed development was located in an area of high archaeological sensitivity. It lay within insula XVI of the Roman town and the projected course of the street between insulae XVI and XVII ran through the western side of the study area. Well preserved late Roman deposits were encountered in all of the test pits. These deposits were covered with depths of overburden ranging from 0.68 metres to 2.20 metres. [Au] |
