Abstract:
An evaluation prior to quarrying revealed evidence of activity in the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. The remains of a barrow, with evidence of flintworking on a large scale and two cremation burials was superceded by a Roman field system respected by post-medieval boundaries. Recovery of a fine Anglo-Saxon brooch led to the excavation of the remains of a 'grubenhaus'. [AIP]
