Abstract: |
Five trenches were excavated under archaeological supervision within the area of the proposed extension to the housing development and along the line of a proposed sewer. The area lay outside the area of the Scheduled Ancient Monument within Harbutt's Field. Only one feature was identified along with pottery which was inconclusive with regard to dating. On the basis of its position and alignment it was thought unlikely that the ditch was of Roman origin, and most likely to be a boundary/agricultural feature of medieval and post-medieval date.
