Abstract: |
Two trial trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development. Trench one measured 20m x 2m in which a total of four contexts were recorded three of which were modern and the fourth the natural geological material. Across the west end of the trench was a fence line of concrete bases, on the same alignment as the plough marks. Trench 2 also measured 20m x 2m in which a total of five contexts were recorded, four modern and the fifth the natural geological material. Cutting across the plough marks through the middle of the trench was a ceramic field drain. All of the modern contexts related to the use of the land as farmland. The later fence and field drain were post-ploughing features, possibly related to its use as common land when it was known locally as Nanny Goat Common. [Au(abr)] |
