Abstract: |
The evaluation consisted of three machine excavated, targeted trenches as part of ongoing archaeological work in advance of a proposed residential development. Previous work involved a desk-based assessment and fieldwalking survey. The trenches were targeted to establish the proposition that Roman roads crossed the study area. Although no evidence for the road was located, a possible focus of prehistoric activity was identified. This consisted of a possible cremation burial (of poorly preserved bone) worked flint and a pair of parallel ditches which could also have been Roman in origin. [Au(adp)] |
