Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a residential development identified that a Romano-British bowl and a 16th-17th century copper alloy strap component had been found in the vicinity, and that the site of a 15th century moated manor house lay to the north-east. The site of a 9th century battle may have lain in the area, and documentary evidence indicated that round barrows of uncertain date had lain immediately to the north-west. A post-medieval milestone lay to the south. It was concluded that the site had a low potential for Roman remains, and a low to moderate potential for Saxon and later features and prehistoric evidence. It was recommended that a field evaluation should be carried out prior to redevelopment. [AIP] |
