Abstract: |
A watching brief during the installation of a new water main at Tattershall Castle revealed a series of late surfaces and possible levelling operations which may have truncated earlier features, mostly from the 18th century onwards. Except for the presence of a possible structural feature (boundary wall?) beneath the existing north-east gate; and an east-west drain there was no evidence that the Bede houses range extended into the area examined. Given the relatively shallow trench in area subject to widespread demolition is was not unusual the no features or layer were found that contained datable proof of medieval origin. [AIP] |
