Abstract: |
The watching brief revealed that the footings of walls originally built in association with Morden Park House that had since been demolished, were confirmed to follow the conjectured ground floor plan of the 1770 building. During the watching brief the construction method used for buildings foundations was revealed. This took the form of a timber raft that supported the brick foundations under those areas of walls exposed during the watching brief. Samples of timbers retrieved from the footings were identified as timber yard offcuts and reused ship timbers. [Au(abr)] |
