Abstract: |
<summary>In response to an engineering scheme to arrest lateral movement and general dilapidation of Tower 9, an area c0.6m wide was excavated around the full external face of the tower. This was a change to the original excavation brief, necessitated by the early discovery of a series of important archaeological features. The work revealed that an earlier stone tower had been erected on top of an existing earthen bank, possibly in the course of the 13th century. This was then substantially remodelled, possibly in the 14th century. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
