Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the most obvious historical feature in the vicinity of the site were the medieval ruins of Whitby Abbey, the site of the Anglo-Saxon monastery of Streoneshalh, founded in the 7th century. The site lay outside the boundary of the abbey, but there was evidence for Iron Age, Saxon and medieval occupation on the site. [Au(adp)] |
