Abstract: |
The siite lay within historic Berkshire, thouugh just inside the City of Oxford. Originating as natural or man-made islands, possibly occupied in the Saxon period, the Norman bridge and causeway of Grandpoint was built along the western edge of the site. From the 16th century the site was open land, or sparsely occupied, and was a timber wharf then boatyard in the 19th century. Heritage considerations for the development included the setting of the Grandpoint SAM, archaeological evaluation and mitigation for the new building, and the industrial archaeological interest of the conservation area buildings on the site.
