Abstract: |
A desk top study of the proposed site of a car-park was undertaken. Bronze Age metalwork and Roman pottery had been found nearby, whilst an Iron Age hillfort and a field system, probably of Romano-British date, lay in the vicinity. Medieval field systems and the possible sites of two deserted medieval villages had been identified. A post-medieval house with a 19th century park lay nearby, and two 19th century factories had been noted in the area. It was concluded that the possibility of archaeological remains existing at the site could not be discounted. [AIP] |
