Abstract: |
Trial excavations were undertaken for proposed road widening as part of a traffic management plan, the area lay within the Scheduled Ancient Monument of the Roman Fort of Concangis. Archaeological deposits relating to timber structures dating to the Roman occupation of the area survived relatively intact, despite the extensive number of service trenches in the area. Post-Roman path surfaces also survived in good condition, although aspects of later Roman and medieval deposits may have been truncated in the north of the area. The depth of the stratified deposits increased towards the south. [Au(abr)] |
