Abstract: |
A desk based assessment of the proposed site of a motorway service area identified that a late Iron Age settlement had been excavated nearby, and that Roman farmsteads, Saxon cemeteries and the possible site of a deserted medieval village had been recorded in the area. A scatter of Roman pottery had been found in an area adjacent to the site, and many undated cropmarks lay to the west and south west. It was concluded that the site had some archaeological potential, particularly for Roman remains, and that an evaluation could be required prior to development. [AIP] |
