Abstract: |
The evaluation trenches revealed three shallow features. Two of the these features were severely truncated and ephemeral, and contained abraded material. These were interpreted as natural features. A more substantial pit was also recorded containing medieval pottery and fragments of animal bone. The features and finds were consistent with domestic activity of the 12th to 14th century. Although the site was situated close to the presumed centre of the medieval settlement of Yeovilton, the extent and nature of the features located suggest peripheral rather than intense activity.
