Abstract: |
A desktop survey was undertaken prior to the development works on the former factory. The factory had been designed by Sir Albert Richardson, for John White and had been added to since its construction. The rise and decline of the John White company was charted, with a substantial collection of plans concerning all stage of the building process (1937-9) and related written documents. However, there was limited information regarding any later alterations to the fabric of the factory. The factory's canteen building to the north-west was the work of Richardson and seemed to have been built during 1942-4 and expanded in 1951. The house within the grounds and the electricity sub-station to the north-west were contemporary with the factory and also the work of Richardson. [Au(abr)]\n |
