Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during building works due to the building being one of Lewes earliest riverside warehouses and also its proximity to the medieval friary. It was discovered that the area below the garage floor has been badly disturbed, no earlier medieval building remains were noted. A decorated clay pipe dating to c.1850 and two fragments of worked stone, one with a graffitto engraving, were recovered. The stone probably comes from the friary. [Au(adp)] |
