Abstract: |
An evaluation of two trial trenches revealed post-medieval pits and linear features, with some stratified layers. The general date range was 17th-19th century with two possible 16th century features. Cartographic evidence suggested that the site has been used only as a garden since at least the early 17th century (until modern use as a private car park). The features probably related to rubbish disposal and/or garden activity. The only definite structural evidence was a single post hole, although it was possible that some of the linear features may represent walls, probably garden walls. A limited amount of residual medieval pottery was found. [Au] |
