Abstract: |
Excavations in advance of the constructon of the new Hull Magistrates Court revealed a complex sequence of occupation and other activities stretching from the middle 13th century until the present day. Three major structural phases of the friary church were identified and the layout of the cloister, cloister walk, east range and west range revealed. Important evidence was also found for pre-friay occupation on the Market Place frontage, and post-medieval structures and deposits were identified which produced excellent groups of closely dated artefacts. Over 240 articulated skeletons were excavated on the site with indications that further burials existed to the north of the monastic church and in the southern walk of the cloister area. [AIP] |
