Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out in advance of the construction of garages at a site which lay 40m to the north of Offa's Dyke, a medieval frontier earthwork. The area was considered to have potential for quarry pits associated with the dyke. No evidence for quarrying was observed during the evaluation, and it was concluded that material used to form the monument in this area may have been quarried from a ditch at its foot. Such a ditch had been located during earlier excavation of a trial trench 150m to the north-west of Mercian Way. [AIP] |
