Abstract: |
Excavations took place in advance of Phase IV construction work at the County Hospital, Hereford. The area under investigation occupied the site of St Guthlacs priory, after it was refounded in 1143. However, archaeological and documentary research over the last 20 years failed to establish the position of anything other than the burial ground and a north west wall considered to be part of the perimeter wall. The excavation comprised of nine trenches, and succeeded in establishing the presence of burials and two parallel ditches considered to be the boundary wall. The position of a larger wall and two associated surfaces was also established.[Au(abr)] |
