Abstract:
A gradiometer survey was carried out at two sites, one at Melsonby and the other in Stanwick, as part of an ongoing academic research programme. The presence of ridge and furrow and modern service pipes at each site hindered the interpretation of weaker anomalies of probable archaeological significance. Nevertheless, many archaeological features were recorded across both sites, including parts of field systems, sub-circular and sub-rectangular enclosures, probable ring ditches and hearths, pits and miscellaneous soil filled features.
