Abstract: |
The assessment area contained an early-mid 19th century two-storey house, which had been accorded Grade II Listed status. The Paddington Basin had formed the terminus of the Paddington branch of the Grand Junction Canal and was opened in 1801. It was an early and important inland transhipment point for London and played a part in the 19th century expansion of London by stimulating the growth of Paddington and handling much of the building material used. From the mid-19th century, the basin performed the equally important role of refuse disposal, a function it fulfilled for over 100 years. [Au(abr)] |
