Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during topsoil stripping of a proposed riding arena at Newtown House near Alton Barnes. Notwithstanding the archaeological potential of the general area, no archaeological features were noted from the stripping, and - with the exception of two undiagnostic flint flakes - only modern finds were encountered. Stripping in the southern part of the site was not sufficiently thorough to reveal the entirety of the chalk bedrock, but any undetected archaeological features which may have been present will not have been disturbed. No archaeological features were present in the northern part of the site. [Au] |
