Abstract: |
Aerial photographs showed a number of undated cropmark enclosures and ring ditches (Warwickshire SMR Ref No WA 4562) immediately to the west of land being considered for development at Heathcote Way, Warwick. An evaluation undertaken by the Oxford Archaeological Unit clearly demonstrated that the proposed development area was a land-fill site, probably formed at the time of the construction of the adjoining industrial estate. No former soil horizons were seen in the sections of the trenches excavated, and it seems likely that these layers were stripped from the site prior to its use as a dumping ground. No archaeological features were found where the natural subsoil was exposed.[AIP] |
