Abstract: |
A desk-top study was undertaken to assess the archaeological implications of the proposed construction of a synthetic turf sports pitch on existing playing fields. The study showed that the site was formerly part of open fields for the majority of documented history until the construction of the school on the site in 1957. The site lay close to the Saxon village of Bishopsworth and probably in the proximity of a major Roman road. Although no archaeological features were visible on the site, the Lower Lias areas of the Bristol remain unpredictable in terms of their prehistoric and Roman archaeological potential. A watching brief was therefore recommended during groundworks. [Au(adp)] |
