Abstract: |
The underlying deposits in the central and western area of the site had suffered considerable truncation, but some archaeological features from the 12th/13th centuries onwards had survived. It was considered possible that a curving channel recorded originally represented a boundary ditch or small moat surrounding a medieval building of high status. Substantial post holes and a deep ditch excavated attested to continuing occupation of the site after the channel had silted up. Building foundations and other later features revealed indicated a continuity of occupation to the present day. [Au(abr)] |
