Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken during the construction of a new footbridge across the moat. The major part of the hall, which was a Listed Building, dated from the late 17th-mid 18th centuries, but a substantial range behind the hall dated from the mid 16th century. A length of the moat survived against the Tudor range and the new footbridge was to cross the moat from an existing doorway in the west elevation. It was hoped that this work would identify and date any earlier bridge structures, which were presumed to have existed based on the position of the original doorway. [Au(abr)] |
