Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of an engineering test-pit within a new wing at Somerset House. Previous test-pits within a separate wing of the building had revealed evidence of medieval and Tudor dumping. During the watching brief, a probable early medieval foreshore deposit containing possible Roman pottery and tile was found. Evidence of the construction of Somerset House, built in 1776, was recorded; the building cut through a probable 17th century wall. [AIP] |
