Abstract: |
Four trial trenches were excavated and six ditches, one pit and one grave were revealed. One ditch and the inhumation were thought to be Roman in date, while the other features may have been medieval. The single inhumation was oriented approximately east-west and was fully excavated. Although no other bodies were located the presence of other graves could not be ruled out. At the eastern end of the site a single pit was revealed containing burnt limestone and animal bone. The deposit probably represented the remains of domestic activity. In the northwest of the site a series of narrow, irregular gullies were found buried beneath a thick band of sandy colluvium (hillwash). The gullies were probably connected to cultivation of the field. [Au] |
